The clients brief was to construct a new studio at the rear of their existing terrace house in Sydney. The studio was to house an enclosed garage space and a self contained studio on the first floor with kitchenette and bathroom.

Being the first of its kind on the laneway, the design of the studio needed to carefully consider solar access to the neighbouring dwellings. After careful solar studies, a design was proposed that encompassed a roof that fell away steeply to the south, with an access stair for the studio that took advantage of the lowered head height.
